Land

The Aura Wastes

SpoilerThis page covers the lands past Wickmoor. Show it

A grey land at the edge of the map where nothing grows, and where every spell paints its colour back for a moment. It opens only when all ten element wizards have fallen. What lies beyond them is for you to find.

Areas

  • The Colourless Plain: Hollow Pilgrim, Rime Revenant, Gnomon, Tome Mimic, Bleachback
  • The Glass Fields: Glass Doppel, Gnomon, Seam Eater, Hollow Pilgrim, Tome Mimic, Bleachback

Creatures

Bleachback, Glass Doppel, Gnomon, Hollow Pilgrim, Rime Revenant, Seam Eater, Smudgeling, Tome Mimic.

Quests

Pieces of heart

The Aura Wastes has 2 challenges out in the open that pay out a piece of heart (ambushes to survive, lamp runs against the clock, buried hearts). More pieces wait in its dungeons, hidden chambers and quests.

Notes and inscriptions

The Island of Colour

In the middle of the grey, a little island where the colour never went: green grass, one red flower, a blue beetle walking. Someone has set a ring of stones round it so no one treads on it.

The Painters' Hollow

A hollow where someone kept their colours safe: little pots of pigment, sealed with wax, each labelled in a careful hand. Moss green. Sky. Robin's egg. The last one only says: for later.

The Last Window (The Glass Fields)

The shards shiver apart and show what they were: one whole windowpane, still in its lead, painted with a green valley under a blue sky. Someone carried it all this way and laid it face down to keep it.

The Surveyor's Kit (The Colourless Plain)

The third lock gives and the stone box opens: a surveyor's kit, folded neat. Chain and compass, a pencil worn to a stub, and a map of the Wastes with every trial marked and the old roads between them drawn in red.

The Surveyor's Peg (The Colourless Plain)

A ring of grey stones and one a shade less grey. Under it, a surveyor's peg and a note: measured twice, and the ring was the same size both times. Good.

Hidden things

Some spots answer to the right element. Cast it there and something comes back.

  • The Glass Fields (Force): The shards shiver apart and show what they were: one whole windowpane, still in its lead, painted with a green valley under a blue sky. Someone carried it all this way and laid it face down to keep it.
  • The Colourless Plain (?): The third lock gives and the stone box opens: a surveyor's kit, folded neat. Chain and compass, a pencil worn to a stub, and a map of the Wastes with every trial marked and the old roads between them drawn in red.
  • The Colourless Plain (Force): A ring of grey stones and one a shade less grey. Under it, a surveyor's peg and a note: measured twice, and the ring was the same size both times. Good.
  • Then the grey takes it again.
