Crustback

A broad, flat thing with a back of cooled basalt plates and glowing seams between them, that soaks up the heat of the vents until it can hold no more. Then it spins and throws it all out. Cold sets its shell solid.

How it fights

It squats and its seams glow hotter and hotter while two curved arms of light turn on the ground round it; then it spins and sprays two spiral arms of molten droplets that sweep outward as they turn. Step into the gap between the arms - or get well back.
