Sunbloom

A white flower taller than a man, rooted among the garden beds, whose head turns all day to follow the light. It drinks the sun and gives it back all at once - everywhere except into its own shade. Frost makes it fold its petals shut.

How it fights

Its petals open wide and the ground all round it, out to a long way, starts to glow; only the patch of shade right under its petals stays dark. Then sunbeams rain down on all the glowing ground at once - twice. Run in under its petals and stand in its shade.
