Pieces of heart
Sunward has 2 challenges out in the open that pay out a piece of heart (ambushes to survive, lamp runs against the clock, buried hearts). More pieces wait in its dungeons, hidden chambers and quests.
Notes and inscriptions
The Undercroft Hymn (The Undercroft)
Under the abbey, a choir loft carved into the rock and a hymn painted round its walls. It is about the dawn coming back every day, and it has no last verse.
The Gardener's Seed Book (The Walled Garden)
Inside the wall, a little garden gone wild, and on a bench a gardener's seed book: every bed planted, every flower named, and on the last page a sketch of the Bloom Garden as it was meant to be.
The Night Office (The Night Cellar)
The night cellar keeps the abbey's night office: the hymns sung while the sun was down, so the light would know the way back. The candles are all burned down to their sockets.
The Gardener's Almanac
Plant the white roses when the dial shows noon twice. Nobody ever saw it show noon twice. We planted them anyway.
The Night Garden
The abbey kept one bed that only flowers in the dark. Nobody here has seen it bloom. The seed came from somewhere the sun never comes up.
A Gardener's Seed Tin (The Bloom Garden)
Seeds sorted in a careful hand: 'Duchess roses. Do not plant near the hives. They know what they did.'
The Bell's Dedication (The Old Bell Tower)
The old bell rings out and dust falls from its rim, showing the words cast into the bronze: Rung for every lamp lit at Dawnspire.
Remember (The Sundial Lawn)
The gnomon's shadow swings to a line no hour uses and a word shows in the gilt: Remember. Under it, smaller, someone has scratched: we do.
The Hour Not on the Face (The Bloom Garden)
A shadow falls across a sundial that has never seen one. Its hand swings to an unmarked hour, revealing gilt: When the sun forgets, seek the Night Office in the Night Cellar beneath the Abbey Steps. The Dawnspire guesthouse keeps its key. Bring them Healer Briony's sleeping cure from Stiltmoor.
The Gardeners' Ring (The Bloom Garden)
A ring of stepping-stones round a bed gone wild, one stone lifted and set back crooked. Beneath it, a list of every rose ever planted in the garden, and who planted it.
A sermon, half burned (Dawnspire)
Doubt is a crack, and the dark comes in through cracks. I did not take their eyes. I closed the cracks. In my light they are safe. Who else would keep them safe? - the Keeper
A Seat by the Road (The Bloom Garden)
A marble bench, warm even now. The garden paths all lean toward the Low Hill, as if they were planted to.
A Shelter on the Road (The Mirror Halls)
A lean-to of rough timber and a fire ring still warm. Scratched on the post: The gardeners rested here. So can you.

Some spots answer to the right element. Cast it there and something comes back.
